The Suites del Plata are modeled after the Dance Suite, an instrumental form very in vogue during the Baroque period, which was a series of popular dances from different parts of Europe, all related by some melodic-rhythmic element and preceded by a Prelude. The Suites del Plata bring together musical pieces from the area known as "La Cu lenca del Plata", an extensive geography around the Río de la Plata and its tributaries, in which a rich and abundant variety of dances, popular music forms and styles emerged and still coexist today. In Suite del Plata n°4, a littoral song, "Olor a domingo" (Smell of Sunday), works as a Prelude and describes the atmosphere of a calm and warm Sunday afternoon. "Urgente" (Urgent) is a tango that introduces us to the vertigo and madness of a big city. "Nublado" (Cloudy) is a country milonga on a gray afternoon in the immensity of the Pampa. "San Cristóbal" is a creole waltz that takes us into one of the most traditional neighborhoods of Buenos Aires. This work closes with "En alpargatas" (In canvas sandal), a Malambo, an old and traditional Pampean dance to be performed by a single man, in which the dancer shows his skill and courage.
